Goosenecks &

Fifth Wheels

Goosenecks

The primary advantage of a gooseneck trailer over a standard bumper trailer hitch is its stability. The choice between the two is important and can affect your driving more than you think.

It all comes down to weight placement and distribution. With a gooseneck, the tongue weight of the trailer is over the truck’s rear axle instead of at the back of the frame. This means the likelihood of the trailer swaying is minimized. This is good news because the increased stability means gooseneck trailers can accommodate more weight.

Fifth Wheels

Fifth wheels and goosenecks are often mis-identified.  While they are similar, they are not the same. The primary difference is that a gooseneck trailer will slide into the bed of your truck and over a ball hitch. Most people have seen them used for hauling horses. Similarly, a fifth wheel trailer does attach in the bed of a pickup truck BUT it uses a hinged plate hitch. To help imagine this setup, it is commonly seen on semi-trucks.

Give us a call and we can help find the right setup for you!
